Skills in Lumberjack's Dynasty

Mechanic comes from how much equipment you own. Fishing, forage, and cooking come from quests and books, not a trainer NPC.

Skills Guide

Lumberjack’s Dynasty sells a skill screen, not a skill tree with respecs. Ranks unlock features: paint, parts, forage glow, better fishing, extra recipes. None of them replace a crane trailer. Read this beside vehicles and Getting Started. The video above is the mechanic path — equipment count, not a side quest.

Mechanic

Mechanic is the skill that makes the workshop matter.

  • Rank 1 arrives with early equipment. Christine’s pickup is the usual first piece. Uncle hands you something to drive; that counts.
  • Later ranks track how many pieces of equipment you own, not hours in the menu. Trailers, forklifts, mowers, and harvesters all add to the pile. Buying a buggy to grind ranks is a waste; buy a second useful trailer instead.
  • Rank 2 is associated with paint on refurbished machines. New dealer vehicles can be painted with less fuss.
  • Rank 3 opens deeper part upgrades: engine, brakes, fuel. Consumption can reset toward the base figure after a swap, so read the plaque.

The July 2021 Machines and Fixes patch made old vehicles renewable/paintable with Mechanic required, added the Lebrino 7 tractor by the ski-resort store, and added Formica Flavius Timberjack and Forwarder in the western lot. Those machines still sit on the vehicle tier list as mid/late buys. Stump grinders after that patch reach taller stumps.

If paint or parts stay grey, count your fleet. Five vehicles is Collector. Ten is Master collector. Mechanic often clicks on the way there.

Fishing and herbalism

Fishing starts with Mayor Ryan’s rod. Ranks let you use better water and the trolling spoon on rares. Details and the ten community rings live on fishing. Do not wait for rank 3 to cook common fish.

One with Nature / herbalism comes from Lilly’s mushroom quest (about fifty mushrooms). After that, Engineer’s Sight highlights forage. Strawberries, mushrooms, and herbs stop being a grey floor. This is the same Sight you use to avoid red trunks on logging.

Cooking and treasure hunter

Cooking ranks from cookbooks and unique recipes, not from a trainer. Buy, read, sell back: fish, egg, honey, mushroom. Master cook wants the unique dishes too. The loop is on cooking.

Treasure hunter (find 30 chests) is exploration gated by Lucky Man. Rank 3 greens stay invisible until Logan’s Chapter 3 replant. The route, tiers, and basement chest live on treasure chests. They are not a mill. Walk the map, mark what you open, keep a spare save.

Animals as a side skill

There is no husbandry tree. Animal breeder is own over 20 animals. Chickens first: up to twenty hens, eggs every morning, almost no upkeep, canned boiled eggs as quiet cash. A rooster sells overflow chicks. Cows need feed — the Revision Part 1 patch (February 2022) fixed hungry cows that gave no milk. A cat costs fish and keeps rats out of stores. Sheep exist as quest and livestock flavour. Buy animals after Chapter II / business-partner status with aunt and uncle, not on day one. Fold eggs into cooking and milk into the same stove.

What Master of skills actually asks

The Steam achievement Master of skills wants every track maxed. That is a late save: mechanic 3, fishing ranks, herbalism, cooking books, treasure count. It is not a first-week goal. Pay the uncle, dry oak, then complete the screen. Achievements lists the rest of the 33.

Skills are multipliers. A rank 3 mechanic on a Cobra you cannot feed is still a Cobra problem. Unlock the rank, then go cut legal wood.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I level mechanic?

Own more equipment. Rank 1 comes early with the pickup. Ranks 2 and 3 follow fleet size. The video on this page walks the count.

When do animals unlock?

After you are a business partner (Chapter II). Talk to roadside NPCs for hens. Do not skip the mill for a hen house; see cooking.

Is treasure hunter a skill or an achievement?

Both in practice: chests drop tools and seeds, and Treasure hunter is a 30-chest Steam achievement listed on achievements.

Do skills work the same on console?

Same ranks. More stuck NPCs and tools. Keep saves. Console release and patch history list the PC fixes that ports may still miss.
